The American West is filled with natural wonders, many of which are familiar to people across the country. While places like Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon are wonderful, I’ve grown fond of the hidden gems. The natural wonders cherished by locals, but largely unknown to outsiders. Shoshone Falls is one such hidden gem, and it’s spectacular.

Located in southern Idaho, near the city of Twin Falls, Shoshone Falls is the crown jewel of the Snake River. At 212 feet, the falls stand 45 feet taller than Niagara Falls, and are quite picturesque.

Waterfalls are one of nature’s great creations, and Shoshone Falls is one of my favorites. Since beginning my travels, I’ve grown quite fond of waterfalls, and now find myself taking lengthy detours to see them. There’s just something about the sight and sound of cascading water, that always makes the trip worth it.

Shoshone Falls is a bit out of the way, but if you’re ever in the area, you’ll definitely want to make a stop. The falls are 2 hours from Boise and 3 hours from Salt Lake City, within range for a day trip. Shoshone Falls are located along I-84, so it’s also a good option when road tripping through Idaho. Either way, if you ever get the chance, make a trip to Shoshone Falls, the view is definitely worth it.
