My name is Zach and I am taking a break from corporate life to explore the United States. Over the next year I plan on traveling to all 50 states and exploring all that our great country has to offer. I recently turned 30, and I suppose you could look at this adventure as a quarter-life crisis. For anyone doing the math and doubting my ability to live to age 120, I refer you to the quote below from the great philosopher Ricky Bobby.
“No one lives forever, no one. But with advances in modern science and my high level of income, it’s not crazy to think I can live to be 245, maybe 300.“
– Ricky Bobby
Before you read further, I must warn that you are dealing with an author that thinks Waffle House is the pinnacle of culinary achievement and that Hot Tub Time Machine is a cinematic masterpiece. This shouldn’t be too surprising as I just quoted Talladega Nights right out of the gate. If you are looking for recommendations on the trendiest restaurants or the best art galleries across America this probably isn’t the blog for you. That being said, what I lack in cultural sophistication I hope to more than make up for with my intellectual curiosity and unique perspective.
If you’re still reading at this point some clarification is in order. Prior to making the decision to travel the country full time I was a portfolio manager at the investment giant PIMCO, focusing on municipal bonds. Practically what this means for you, is that I have memorized the names of more small towns throughout the country than any reasonable person should. Some of these towns are actually quite fascinating and worthy of visiting. If you don’t believe me I have Greensburg, Kansas listed in an Excel spreadsheet as a potential stop on this trip (I won’t rob you of the Google searches trying to figure out why).
In all seriousness, I’m looking forward to sharing my travel experiences with you and strive to pass along some interesting reading material along the way. Thanks!!
