Went to the Final Four at the Super Dome in downtown New Orleans last night. Typed most of this while trying to escape from a parking garage, but just getting around to posting. The first matchup of the night between Kansas and Villanova was entertaining, but not particularly close, a fine opening act for the main attraction of Duke vs. North Carolina.
Duke and UNC were always going to overshadow whoever was playing in the other semifinal game. With two historic rivals meeting in March for the first time, plus the storyline of Coach K’s last season, expectations were bound to be high. Yet the game not only met expectations but exceeded them, delivering an instant classic that will be remembered for a long time. UNC ultimately prevailed 81-77 in a back and forth game between heated rivals. This was my first Final Four experience, and it’s hard to imagine a better game and overall atmosphere. The Final Four wasn’t high on my list of bucket list items before this, but I’m now realizing it should have been. Even if you’re not a Basketball fan, I would highly recommend making the trip at least once.
On a separate note, New Orleans is an amazing place to attend a sporting event. When you think of New Orleans, your first thoughts are probably of Food and Mardi Gras, but make no mistake New Orleans is a sports town. With the Super Dome centrally located downtown, the city provides an amazing game day experience. You can spend the afternoon taking in the history, culture, and cuisine that make New Orleans famous, and then make the quick walk over to the Super Dome for game time. I still have more exploring to do in New Orleans but off to a very good start. I’ll be back on Monday night for the championship matchup between Kansas and UNC, not sure anything can top the last game but looking forward to it nonetheless.
You picked a great weekend to be there. Duke/UNC & Kansas/UNC we’re both epic.
Oh my goodness, this sounds like the adventure of a lifetime that your uncle Brad Dupray would love to join you on, if he didn’t have a family at home to support. I would love for him to be able to do something as crazy, and young and throwing caution to the wind! He really wants to go to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Upper New York, I believe! It wouldn’t be as spectacular as what you’ve got planned, but I do really think he would enjoy it. Hopefully maybe he and your dad can go at sometime. I’ve been told that no girls were allowed because we just don’t understand how exciting this is and we would want to leave early.😂😂😂 He’s probably correct! Enjoy your trip!
