Visited Washington DC this weekend to witness the annual spring time blooming of the Cherry Blossoms. Walking along the Tidal Basin with the Cherry Blossoms in full bloom is an unmatched picturesque setting. If you have never been to DC during this time of year I highly recommend it. The Cherry Blossoms on their own are a stunning natural beauty but when presented with the Jefferson Memorial and Washington Monument as the backdrop it’s truly a sight to see.

Fun Fact: Most people familiar with the Cherry Blossoms know they were a gift from Japan to strengthen relations with the United States. What most people don’t realize is that the gift wasn’t exactly unsolicited but rather in response to First Lady Nellie Taft’s desire to purchase cherry trees to plant along modern day Independence Avenue. .

  1. I was in DC at the peak of cherry blossom season and didn’t know it until I was watching the morning news. I had my camera with me (as always) and about four hours to kill before heading to the airport so I did a little “photo safari.” Here’s a link to my pix from the day, they don’t do justice to being there in person. https://braddupray.smugmug.com/Photography/Washington-DC
